Sleep under a star-sparkled sky. But before that, you must hike with a trapper, float down ancient canoe routes, cruise Kenogamissi and enjoy a few exquisite meals. A true socio-cultural experience unique to Northern Ontario. This is a sample itinerary. Each package can be customized for group size, age, interest, and timing. Alterations resulting from unforeseeable circumstances may occur. Your guides’ utmost priority is your safety, please follow their instructions closely.
Arrive at Wawaitin Holiday Park for 3:00PM. Meet your host and guide, enjoy welcome refreshments, take in orientation, registration, and wilderness and water safety. After an outdoor meal by the great bonfire, experience your first night sleeping under the stars of the boreal forest, in an authentic prospector canvas tent.
Start your first day with a served morning meal before embarking on adventure filled excursions. Your personal wilderness guide will take you to a nearby ancient burial ground of native first peoples, and will continue on to visit High Falls. Experience a leisurely downstream paddle to Dalton Road bridge with lots of great scenery and wildlife along the way. Finally, your guide will bring you back to Wawaitin Holiday Park for another evening of northern delights.
Your boreal forest experience will continue with lots to see and learn. Your guide can show you how to use a crossbow or how hydroelectric power is harnessed from the Mattagami River. He can even teach you to forage for wild mushrooms. On the evening, practice the 'call of the wild' and learn to howl as wolves or call out a moose with the help of your wilderness guide.
After breakfast, a quick paddle and swim in Kenogamissi Lake will get your day started. Today is all about relaxation and great local eats. The late afternoon will bring some pontoon cruising on Kenogamissi Lake and visiting a trap line cabin to learn how the beaver and a company helped create Canada. End the night with another round-up around a fabulous bonfire.
After a farewell breakfast, we recommend a visit to the Timmins Museum to learn about our local heritage. If you wish, stay an extra day to revitalize, meet the community and discover the city with a heart of gold. The city has some fantastic accommodations ready to extend your holiday.
