Spend an extended weekend with us. Paddle the mighty Mattagami River, cast a line where sturgeon are lurking, and discover unique city views. This is a sample itinerary. Each package can be customized for group size, age, interest, and timing. Alterations resulting from unforeseeable circumstances may occur. Your guides’ utmost priority is your safety, please follow their instructions closely.
Arrive at Wawaitin Holiday Park for 1:00PM. Meet your guide, enjoy welcome refreshments, and take in orientation, registration, and water safety. After your first outdoor dinner, light a camp fire to relax your body and purify your soul.
A hearty breakfast will get your day started out right. From there, it is time to head out into the wild; where all rivers flow north! If you are on a six to ten day journey, put-in is near Halliday at the head waters of the Grassy River complex. If you are on a one or three day paddle, you will start with a hike to High Falls. Your guide will feed you a shore lunch before hitting the water.
Another fabulous morning meal, and bon voyage if you’re returning home. Otherwise, today is for paddling the Grassy lowlands or reaching the great Mattagami River and paddling towards Timmins. Experience riverside camping, fire cooking, and great scenery by land and for all water nomads.
Today is a new day, with opportunities to view and photograph other wildlife, such as the curious black bear. Those ending their adventure today will be met at the public docks in downtown Timmins, and provide transport for their final night's stay in one of our yurt cabins.
For those on an extended trip, you will paddle on several lakes like Sinclair, Nursery, Kapiskong, and Peterlong; the largest and last on the chain. Pike are abundant so make sure to catch a big one (over 20lbs!). On your last day you will paddle the Mattagami River to visit a generating station before returning to the park. A final 'thank you' lunch will be served before departing at 1:00PM. We hope to see you again!
